It is important to understand the impact of refrigerant selection, not just for individual system or component performance, but as well as for the lifetime impact for the use of that refrigerant. The working fluid itself will impact system efficiency and resultant energy consumption, but the initial production of that refrigerant and product, the leakage of refrigerant overtime, and decommissioning at the end of life all have an impact on the overall carbon footprint for that product.
